Our Goliath (Testimony) – Brother Ryan Bonnette

In 2007, my wife, Gabby, and I got married and moved into our first house. Not long after moving in, we noticed that a very large hickory tree on the back edge of our property had a large hole on the side of the trunk. After further investigation, we realized that much of the trunk was hollow and thus it was weakened. However, it was still a very lively tree and seemed sturdy so we decided not to worry for the time about it possibly falling on our house.

Many years passed and the tree stood firm until March, 2017. During a storm, a very powerful wind struck the tree and blew it strongly towards our house. It still stood but it suffered damage in the storm weakening the already compromised trunk. It was time to do something about the tree as it was now posing an imminent threat to our house. We began calling tree companies to inquire about removing the tree. It was far too dangerous for me to cut it down myself because it was in reach of several structures including three houses, two buildings and a neighbor’s fence. Anything it landed on would be severely damaged.

I was given estimates from two tree companies ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 for the removal of the tree. This was due to the surrounding structures. The tree companies would have to use heavy equipment to take the tree down one limb at a time. Because the cost was so high, I determined to consider other methods of removing the tree, including possibly doing it myself even though there were major risks involved. One day, while I was out in the yard, I stopped and looked up at the tree and thought, “What can I do to take it down safely?”

Seemingly out of nowhere, the Scripture came to my mind, “And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.” (Luke 17:6) I knew we had a legitimate need for the tree to come down away from our house so, with that Scripture in mind, I looked up at the tree and said, “When you fall, fall this way.” As I spoke, I pointed in the direction opposite from our house. Falling that way would only damage the fence of an adjacent commercial property which I could easily repair. After that day, I did not give much more thought to the tree or the words that I spoke to it.

At about that same time, as I would later find out, our children had been asking Gabby, “Mommy, is that tree going to fall on our house?” I suppose they had heard Gabby and I talking about it before. She replied, “No, girls. God is going to make it fall away from our house.” So, as it turns out, while I was outside speaking to the tree, Gabby was inside making a positive confession to our girls about the tree. Her confession agreed with what I spoke to the tree; that it would fall in the opposite direction from our house. The Scripture supports this:

Matthew 18:19 – Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Hebrews 10:23 – Let us hold fast the profession [confession] of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

A few months later, in June 2017, another storm hit. Oddly, this storm had only a minimal amount of wind. It was not like a heavy wind storm that would take down large trees. The storm happened late one night after our kids were in bed. Gabby was lying in bed listening to a sermon with an ear bud in one ear but her other ear was open to listen for the girls in case they got out of bed. She was able to hear the storm outside. I was on the other end of our house also well able to hear the storm. There was lots of lightning and thunder, moderate rain but only a slight gusty wind blowing. Suddenly, I heard what sounded like small debris hitting the back side of our house. Gabby came running to me and told me she heard a limb break off of a tree.

We both peered out of a back window into the pitch-black darkness that engulfed our back yard. I tried to look for a possible limb that might have fallen when, suddenly, a flash of lightning illuminated the sky enough so that I could see our yard. Just where this mammoth hickory tree used to occupy our entire view of the back yard was now a huge void! Gabby said, “The tree is not there.” I screamed out, “It’s gone! It’s gone!” We hurried to get our shoes and a flashlight and we ran out into the storm to investigate. The tree indeed had fallen. In nothing more than a light, gusty wind, the tree that once threatened our house had fallen. Not only did it fall, but it landed exactly opposite to the direction of our house! It landed precisely where I told it to and where Gabby had confessed that it would fall! Praise the Lord for His goodness and mercy towards His children!

The following day, we went out in the daylight to further investigate and take pictures. We measured the entire height of the tree to be 95 feet. We then measured in the direction of our house to find out exactly where it would have landed if it had fallen that way. It actually would have completely covered our house and the top of it would have been in our front yard! If it had of fallen towards either of our neighbors’ houses, it would have well reached theirs and done substantial damage as well.

There are many other particulars about the tree that I should mention to emphasize how miraculous this outcome really was. My dad used to be a professional logger and he cut down many trees while on that job. After he assessed this tree for us back in March, he and I determined that it would naturally fall towards our house. More than 90 percent of the limbs on the tree were on the side facing our house. Some of them were very large limbs the size of small trees themselves so it was heavily weighed down on that side. Also, the tree leaned about 4 degrees towards our house. Add to that the fact that the hole on the trunk as well as the damage sustained by the trunk during the March storm were on the side facing our house as well. There was no reason to think that it would fall opposite from our house outside of some supernatural occurrence.

Also, it’s odd to consider the events surrounding the falling of the tree. It happened during a storm with only minimal gusts of wind. It made a very small amount of noise sounding just like a limb breaking. There was no rumble in the ground that would normally accompany such a large tree falling. It was as if the tree was just gently let down to the ground by some supernatural force, defying gravity and all natural reasoning that said it should have fallen violently on our house. Before it fell, Gabby named the tree, “Goliath,” because it was boasting such a threat to our home. That turned out to be a very appropriate name because it fell opposite of the way it should have naturally fallen just as Goliath fell forward on his face instead of backward after being struck in the forehead. (I Samuel 17:49)

Just two days before the tree fell, Brother Wade preached about the fall of man in the Garden of Eden and how that Adam lost the Title Deed to the Earth. Prior to the fall, Adam could speak to nature just like Jesus during His ministry spoke to the winds, waves and the trees and they obeyed Him. In his sermon, Brother Wade spoke about how that we must be restored back to that condition again where we, “have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:26)

Also, just prior to this event, Brother Dale told us to read, “The Message of Grace (61-0827).” In that sermon, Brother Branham talked about speaking to nature and he testified about speaking squirrels into existence for the second time. He also spoke about the mosquitos and said, “Not one of them will bother me this day.” They obeyed. He spoke of the Sun and said, “it will shine within thirty minutes.” The Sun obeyed (Paragraphs 28-36). What wonderful things God did through His Prophet!

Now, I would ask each of you that read this testimony to consider what God has done for you? Why would God send Brother Branham to perform these mighty miracles in his day and then just pass off of the scene and leave us destitute of any power? He is still, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8) How many miracles have we witnessed in our own congregation? There are numerous accounts that we could mention of things we have witnessed that even portray the ministry of our Lord. Our pastor, Brother Dale, often tells of the story of his friend, Randall, who died while on a hunting trip. Brother Dale and Brother Wade were aware of the severity of Randall’s condition as his eyes rolled back in his head. Brother Dale shouted, “Randall!” Then, Randall’s eyes came open and he revived. How similar to the account of our Lord standing before the grave of the deceased Lazarus and crying, “with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.” (John 11) Then, Lazarus raised from the dead!

I contend that these mighty miracles are not only for our Lord Jesus, our Prophet and our Pastor. I believe these things can be done and even have already been done by believers in our own Spoken Word Church! However, perhaps we have often overlooked some of the miracles in our own lives and thought them to be mere coincidences or maybe too small to be significant and supernatural. Keep in mind, though, that God hides in simplicity. He loves to manifest Himself in the simplest of His children and in the smallest details of our lives. I urge every reader to take time to meditate on your natural journey and your spiritual journey. Look more closely at those odd circumstances that have happened where maybe you have spoken to nature or some other force that stood against you and things miraculously changed.

Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Thank you for taking the time to read this testimony! Please feel free to share it with family and friends. I would love to hear from any of you that have a testimony or comment to share with me. God Bless You!

Love in Christ,
Brother Ryan Bonnette
