“The Law”

GALATIANS 3:13

13    Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree:

GALATIANS 3:14

14    That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

GALATIANS 3:15

15    Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though [it be] but a man's covenant, yet [if it be] confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

GALATIANS 3:16

16    Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

GALATIANS 3:17

17    And this I say, [that] the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

GALATIANS 3:18

18    For if the inheritance [be] of the law, [it is] no more of promise: but God gave [it] to Abraham by promise.

GALATIANS 3:19

19       Wherefore then [serveth] the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; [and it was] ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

GALATIANS 3:20

20    Now a mediator is not [a mediator] of one, but God is one.

GALATIANS 3:21

21    [Is] the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

GALATIANS 3:22

22    But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

GALATIANS 3:23

23    But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

GALATIANS 3:24

24    Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

GALATIANS 3:25

25    But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

GALATIANS 3:26

26    For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

HE.SWORE.BY.HIMSELF_  JEFF.IN  V-26 N-11  SUNDAY_  54-1212

200    God told--told Adam, "If you'll touch this tree, you'll... You eat from Here, and you'll live. You eat from that one, you'll die." That's the covenant. Now, that's... You--you've got the thing before you, "If you do this, if you do that, you'll--you'll die. If you live there, eat this one, you'll live." So then Adam eat from this, and he died.

Grace come on, then God made a covenant by grace. And when He did, the children of Israel down in Egypt... God already said by His Word what He was going to do. He was going to bring them out. And God's obligated to His Word. But then when God, obligated to His Word, went down there and sent a saviour, Moses, grace provided that... Here come Moses, leading the children of Israel out.

When they come out with him, got out in the wilderness, said, "Oh, give us something to do. We want to form us an organization, and we want you to give us something to do. Let us make us something like this. Give us a law to keep." Exodus 19 was the greatest mistake that Israel ever made. When grace had already provided their salvation, then they wanted something to do to merit it. God already swore to Abraham, what He was going to go. They said, "Let us have the law." And the law never did... No one never kept it. They never did.

GOD'S.COVENANT.WITH.ABRAHAM_  SIOUX.FALLS.SD  THURSDAY_  56-0223

E-65    And the dove was not clave apart, but the animal, showing the difference between them, that there would be a time that law would change to grace, and so forth, grace was first. And grace had already provided a Saviour down in Egypt. They already had a Moses to deliver them out. They already had a sacrifice. They already had everything, but where Israel made her final, fatal move is in Exodus 19, where she taken on, and wanted law, and rejected grace. That's right.

Grace is always right; not what you do; it's what you believe. It isn't works, lest any man should boast. It's by grace are you saved through faith.

SPIRITUAL.ADOPTION_  JEFF.IN  SUNDAY_  56-0923

E-51    If you're orthodox in your belief, it doesn't matter. So we'll just have the Mohammedans and the Buddhas, and we'll have them all together. Peter said, "It's good for us to be here, and let us now build three tabernacles. We'll build a seminary here for Moses. We'll build a seminary for Elijah. And all that want to worship under the law, and so forth, let them worship."

And now, we notice they looked and Peter and them watching Moses... Moses represented the law. God gave the children of Israel the law because that they wanted the law. God didn't want them to have it. That's man's choice. In Exodus 19, they said, "You give us something to do to merit our salvation." We'll keep a law if You'll give it to us, in other words. But it never was God's plan. It's better just to quit planning yourself and just use His plans. I find that much easier to take His plan.

CONFERENCE_  SHREVEPORT.LA  FRIDAY_  60-1125

E-33    The children of Israel on the road back, they had another conference with God, Moses did at the Red Sea. We'll call that the Red Sea conference. When right in the line of duty lay trouble. And listen Christians: There's where you'll make your fatal mistake. There's where Israel made her fatal mistake. When she asked for a law to serve God by. In Exodus 19, after grace had done provided a saviour, Moses, a prophet, done provided a lamb, done provided a covenant, done provided all these things and yet they wanted something to do themselves. They wanted some theology.

That's what's the matter today. If we'd have left Pentecost the way it was at the beginning... But we had to have something to argue about. We had to be oneness, twoness, threeness, Church of God... Oh, my. All these riding hump-backed camels of one hump, two humps, three humps and so forth. What difference does it make what--how many humps a camel's got as long we're riding in? What difference does it make, whether you're in a Ford or a Chevrolet, just keep moving.

CHURCH.CHOOSING.LAW.FOR.GRACE_  MIDDLETOWN.OH  THURSDAY_  61-0316

E-27    Now, we notice after all the blessings had come to Israel, yet they wanted (Exodus 19), they wanted to have a--they wanted to have a law. They wanted to have something that they could do themselves, some Sabbath days they could keep, or some ordinances they could do, or--or something another that was in--brought in to them that they could do themselves.

And if you can do one thing to save yourself, then there's not one speck of it grace. Law is what you do in regards to the grace that God has showed you by saving you.

As I've often said, I don't run around with other women because I'm afraid my wife will divorce me. I don't run around with other women 'cause I love my wife. That's it. I don't believe that you should run around. But a law isn't what keeps it, my marriage vow; it's my love. And it's reason I love God. Not because I'm afraid He'd send me to hell; I don't believe He'd do that. But because I love Him so much I don't want to do it. There's nothing in me to make me do it. I love Him too much; I wouldn't hurt Him for nothing. Certainly, I love Him.

UNVEILING.OF.GOD_  JEFF.IN  V-9 N-1  SUNDAY_  64-0614M

129    In type, Moses coming from the Presence of God with the Word of God for that age... Now, watch, we're now in Exodus 19. Don't miss this now. Exodus 19, Moses is coming from the Presence of God, or 20 and 21, 19:20 and 21. Moses is coming from the Presence of God; he has been into the Word. The Word's been wrote, and he in the Presence of God with the Word, he had the Word for that age. There's a Word for each age. And Moses coming forth, his face shined so. See? The Word was in him, ready to be manifested, give out to the people.

The true Word, God had wrote It and It was with Moses. Notice It was with Moses and was ready to be manifested. He was the Word to them; he was the living Word hid, veiled himself; Moses had to put a veil over his own face. Why? He was that Word. Amen. Until that Word was made known, Moses had to veil himself. Amen. Do you see It? Wherever the Word is, It's veiled.

HEAR.YE.HIM_  PHOENIX.AZ  SUNDAY_  57-0310E

E-36    Now, Moses represented the law, and by the law no flesh is saved. You can't be saved by the law. The law was only a schoolmaster; it only pointed sin. The law could point out sin, but it didn't have the remedy for sin. Moses represented the law.

Then what did Elijah represent? Elijah represented the justice of God. Elijah was the stern representation of God's justice. He had a revelation from God, a vision, went up and set on a hill. Here king sent fifty men; raised up, and he said, "If I be a man of God, let fire fall from heaven and consume you." Down come the fire: justice of God, transgressor must die in the presence of it.

The king said, "That just might have been a thunderbolt pass through. I'll send up another fifty."

So when they come up on the hill of fifty, Elijah raised up said, "If I be a man of God, let fire come from heaven and consume you." And down come the fire and consumed another fifty: justice.

HEAR.YE.HIM_  OAKLAND.CA  FRIDAY_  57-0322

E-48    And all... Now Moses represented the law of God. And by the law no man is saved. No flesh can be saved by keeping the law. The law was only a schoolmaster. The law didn't have any remedy. The law was the--the prison house. You would've never knowed sin if it hadn't been by the law. The law only pointed it out. The law was God's policeman that put you in jail. But it had no remedy to bring you out. Law does not bring you out.

END.TIME.EVANGELISM_  JEFF.IN  V-10 N-5  SUNDAY_  62-0603

96    But Noah, in his day it was hard for him in his dispensation (See?), because that the people had never heard of such a thing, but it come just the same. Then we find out on the scene, come after the--Noah's deliverance and so forth, and the earth begin to grow again, and--and everything that breathed breath perished. And then we find out again that there come a time, then God was bringing His children out of Egypt, that Moses come along with the law. It was so hard for the people to understand, but a dispensation was changing to a law. And then after the law come, Moses trying... It was a schoolmaster. People was just living any way they wished to, so the schoolmaster, the law, was, the Bible said, to bring people to recognize that it was wrong, so He gave them the ten commandments. It was quite a change; the people didn't want to receive it. All right.
